Lofty 360 Augmented Reality Mobile App

Lofty 360 is an Augmented Reality app that allows users to locate key South Australian locations and international cities from the summit at Mount Lofty. A pin is placed on these locations and dynamically allows users to view short descriptions of the location as well as the ability to click and find out more. Locations can be toggled based on different categories.

The main functionality of the Lofty 360 app is its capability to use the desired mobile devices camera, combined with GPS coordinates to map the users’ location and detect their orientation and position on the Mount Lofty summit.  With this information gathered the app then also uses Longitude and Latitude to position “pins” onto the key locations featured inside the app, these include such places as McLaren Vale, Adelaide Oval, Barossa Valley, Kangaroo Island, International Cities and many more.  All this is done live and augmented through the camera, meaning you see all locations as you move the device around to uncover more locations and cities.

The app is available now in the Google Play and Apple App Store – just search for “Lofty 360”

Christmas Pageant AR Filter

In a collaboration with The Rowdy Group, Lateral Vision was tasked with creating an augmented reality (AR) filter to be used to promote the iconic National Pharmacies Christmas Pageant.

Using facial tracking technology and 3D modelling, the final AR filter was modelled after the iconic tricycle riding clown that can be spotted in the pageant and could be accessed on Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook by scanning the QR codes placed around the pageant area. It was a huge hit and we loved seeing people using it on the day!

The filter was immensely popular amongst spectators on pageant day allowing them to share themselves as the iconic clown on social media

Great Southern Rail
AR Experience

Operating across Australia, The Ghan and Indian Pacific trains take travellers to parts of Australia that no other holiday can match. The Great Southern Rail team wanted a way to showcase these incredible experiences to visitors at trade shows and events. Using augmented reality, Lateral Vision was able to simulate the trains travelling across Australia, letting users view the experience on a tabletop in front of them using the Microsoft Hololens.

The Hololens allows imagery to be mapped onto surfaces, giving users the ability to move around the simulation in front of them. Satellite imagery was used for the various environments, adding height and displacement to give the perspective of a 3D landscape from a 2D plane. Accurate, fully optimised, low poly models of the trains were created to bring the whole project to life, including small texture details such as scratches and accumulated dirt. Lastly, a video and voice over tell the story of the journey, as the 3D models, terrain and environment update along the way

The Great Southern Rail AR Experience is a unique and engaging way for users to discover some of the experiences on offer from Journey Beyond.
